Teleport

A Teleport is a Burst Movement Option defined by the instant relocation of a player character from one location to another without moving through the intervening space. It is commonly used to achieve rapid traversal, bypass obstacles, access hidden areas, or create tactical positioning during combat or puzzles.

Variants of Teleport mechanics typically revolve around distance, Cooldown, Resource-Dependency, or line-of-sight requirements. Some implementations can be used freely in any direction, while others restrict relocation to predefined points, ground surfaces, or marked targets. Certain variants retain momentum before movement, creating an inertial glide effect. Some games combine teleportation with a targeting beam, restricting activation to line-of-sight ranges.

Examples

Portal (2007) – Players use a portal gun to create entrances and exits on walls, enabling asymmetric teleportation to solve spatial puzzles.

Valorant (2020) – Multiple agents possess tactical teleportation abilities with limited range or requiring marked positions.

League of Legends (2009) – The player character instantly Teleports near an allied turret after approximately 4 seconds of channeling. Used for quickly repositioning. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (2018) – Multiple playable characters have moves that Teleport them a set distance, typically in any direction. Some of these moves are also Attacks.
