Sprint Jump

A Sprint Jump is an Advanced Movement Technique performed by Jumping while Sprinting. Doing so allows the player character to cross wider gaps and reach higher platforms while Platforming.

The simplest form of Sprint Jump allows the player character to maintain some or all of their Sprint speed midair, allowing the player character to cross a wider distance with an otherwise unchanged jump. They frequently overlap with Long Jumps, used to cross horizontal space. A Sprint Jump which does not do this and instead immediately resets the character to their Walking speed may feel awkward for players. A Sprint Jump could also reach higher than a regular Jump to further extend the character’s aerial reach. Similarly to Sprinting, however, it may be more difficult to turn around or stop during a sprint jump than in a normal Jump.

Examples

Hollow Knight: Silksong (2025) – Features a Sprint Jump with reduced Air Control and increased air speed.

Super Mario Maker (2015) – Features a Sprint Jump which gives additional Jump height in addition to maintaining Sprint speed.

Metroid: Dread (2021) – Features 3 different Jumps: the default Jump, performed by Jumping in place; the “Spin Jump” performed by Jumping while Walking, which allows the player character to Wall Jump and, once unlocked, Double Jump, but does not allow the character to stop moving while midair; and a Sprint Jump, an extension of the “Spin Jump” which does not allow the character to even turn around.

Mirror’s Edge (2008) – Features a Sprint Jump that is also a Long Jump.
