Slide

A Slide is an Alternative Movement Option in which the player uses their momentum or a slope to move forward with a lower profile. Slides often can only be used out of a Sprint or under specific conditions. Frequently, Slides can only be used for a certain duration, usually limited by the amount of speed the player has, or by the environment.

Slides are frequently a Burst Movement Option, granting the player a burst of speed before they are forced to stop completely. Other times, slides can be used to add depth to traversing the map, allowing the player to slide under obstacles or down slanted environment pieces. A side may or may not be a Rushing Attack.

Examples

Mirror’s Edge (2008) – The player can use Slides to quickly traverse down slanted surfaces, to squeeze under low obstacles, or to attack an enemy’s legs. The player can only Slide for a certain distance on flat ground before they become too slow and transition back to running

Battlefield series – The player is able to Slide out of a Sprint, giving them a burst of speed to reach a safe place before they are put into a crouching state. Most Slides in first-person shooters function similarly.

Mega Man (1987) – The player character can Slide while grounded, at no cost and with no momentum requirements. This Slide has a set distance and duration.

Ultrakill (Upcoming) - Ultrakill’s Slide retains the low-profile and speed boost, but there is no limit to its duration and it can be performed from the player’s default moving state. In this aspect, it functions quite similarly to a Sprint.
