Landing Lag

Landing Lag is a form of Endlag incurred by the player upon landing from being airborne while performing an action in midair (such as an Attack). During this time, they cannot execute other actions. Landing Lag slows down the transition between aerial and grounded combat and gives risk to certain actions, especially aerial Attacks executed near the ground.

The length of a period of Landing Lag varies between games. Even within a single game, some Attacks may have more lag than others. Certain games permit players to cancel landing lag through specific Advanced Movement Techniques.

Examples

Super Smash Bros. Brawl (2008) – Attacks have a fixed amount of Landing Lag which can not be mitigated.

Brawlhalla (2014) – Allows players to manually avoid Landing Lag through a technique called a Ground Cancel.
