Just Frame

A Just Frame is a type of Motion Input that requires the player to input with the precision of a single frame (usually 1/60th of a second) for the action to be performed. This is most commonly seen in fighting games.

Oftentimes, Just Frames are used to balance particularly strong moves. While traditionally Just Frame requires an input on one specific frame, sometimes the input is more lenient and can be done on multiple frames, often referred to as a Blue Spark.

Examples

Tekken series – The most famous example, the Electric Wind God Fist (EWGF) requires the player to input Down Forward and the Right Punch button at the same frame in order to achieve a much stronger version of the move Wind God Fist.

Pokken Tournament (2015) – Pikachu has a similar move to the Electric Wind God Fist from Tekken that requires a near-just frame input to perform.

SoulCalibur series – The SoulCalibur series of games features many Just Frame inputs that vary in terms of difficulty and how they change the move that is performed.
