Fastfall

A Fastfall is an Alternative Movement Option that allows the player to fall faster than normal gravity while in midair. Fastfalling is differentiated from a Stomp in that the player character generally retains access to their midair move set, and does not need to cancel the Fastfall to use it. In other words, the difference between the Fastfall state and regular falling is only the speed. Access to this option enhances the controllability of Air Control, increases gameplay tempo, and encourages precise control.

Fastfall can typically be activated after reaching the peak of a Jump, though variations exist across different games and characters. Some games allow players to chain Fastfall after a Double Jump or combine it with other techniques. Sometimes Fastfall can also be used as an Attack method.

Examples

Celeste (2018) – The player can hold down to increase maximum falling speed.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (2018) – The player can input down to immediately jolt their character to their maximum falling speed. Different playable characters fall at different rates.
